About the Lake Havasu, Arizona Area
Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Lake Havasu City was founded in 1964 by Robert P. McCulloch, inventor of chain saws and small engines, after he purchased approximately 19,000 acres at a public auction. His goal was to create a recreational paradise along the shores of the Colorado River. In 1968 Mr. McCulloch bought the London Bridge for $2.5 million dollars from the City of London. The bridge was disassembled, and the marked stones were shipped to Lake Havasu City and reassembled for another $7 million. This took 3 years to complete! It opened in October 1971. It has been claimed that it was bought in the mistaken belief that it was the more grandiose Tower Bridge. The bridge was dedicated in 1971 and has become the second most visited tourist attraction in Arizona next to the Grand Canyon. At a Glance Lake Havasu City boasts a high quality of life with a low crime rate, excellent schools, outstanding medical facilities, and beautifully maintained open spaces. Many destination areas are easily accessible including Southern California, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Mexico. Lake Havasu City
